Atlantis blasts off towards space station

Space shuttle Atlantis launched Monday afternoon to deliver key spare parts to prolong the life of the International Space Station. The shuttle lifted off as scheduled, at 2:28 p.m. ET from the Kennedy Space Center near Cape Canaveral. The delivery will add years to the station's life after the space shuttle fleet is retired next year, according to NASA. Monday's launch is among six planned before then.

Girl's body found in North Carolina

Shaniya Davis, 5, was reported missing last week in North Carolina. Today authorities said that they found her body. Authorities have not yet stated exactly where they found her body, but they did mention that they were searching near a land next to a roadway. They stated that they received "reliable information". Over 200 people were searching for her body after they heard the news.

Her mother (shown below) Antoinette Nicole Davis, faces human trafficking and other charges. Other charges against the mother include felony child abuse, prostitution and filing a false police report, according to the Fayetteville Police Department. The mother told police last week that the child vanished from their mobile home in Fayetteville. Hotel surveillance video taken around the same time Shaniya was reported missing showed the girl with a man identified as Mario Andrette McNeill. He was charged with first-degree kidnapping. Police said they dropped kidnapping charges against another man, Clarence Coe, who was arrested Thursday in connection with the case.

Today on the Oprah Winfrey Show, there was an unusual guest. Her name was Sarah Palin, the lady who did not know that Africa was a continent! I thought everyone knew that. I learned that in 3rd grade. If you recall when Palin was last on a talk show, she stated that she reads a lot of magazines, but when she was asked to name some of the magazines she reads, she fell a little short.
